Scarlett was born on Tara, the estate of Gerald O´Hara in the state of Georgia. Since all of Gerald's sons had not survived their childhood it was early stated that Scarlett was to become Gerald's hier. So Gerald raised her as his heir and she turned out quite different from Scarlett's two sisters.
